Official training was scheduled to begin yesterday, but after realizing that most of my day would involve travel (my soccer team had a game up in bakersfield) i decided, no thank you.
Soccer:
Today was an out of focus sort of day. My eyes felt crossed, my feet felt heavy and my reaction was lagging. For the first half of practice we warned up doing kicking, sliding, diving drills. For the latter section of practice I did strength and core drills with our keeper coach. He set up a drill that he told me he thought only I would be able to do. I think that is a compliment. one legged hop hop hop land on other legs and dive. sit up's while throwing a soccer ball like a medicine ball, and then sit ups while catching with one hand and tossing back same hand. no pushing urself up with elbows or hands. I do enjoy a good sweat. Today felt like summer again.
Ground Zero:
I am starting with 1 mile. Yes. Today I ran for 9 minutes and 30 seconds. I sweat, I groaned, I pushed. The fact that I play soccer and train daily does not mean I am a fabulous runner. In fact, quite the contrary. I am built/trained for short bursts of energy and for strength-- lifting. The fact that I hate failure, and I hate being "slow" will be a fight I will learn to fight along the way. Reminding myself each footstep that this really isn't about me. In fact, success rarely is in my opinion. I don't win by being selfish, I don't win by pummeling the shyt out of my workouts. I win by focus, pushing, and sticking to it.
